I have known Patti Amaral for a while, a few years ago she gathered funds and commissioned me to paint the Matto's Field mural. We have been talking for atleast a year about restoring the Carry In Carry out murals at Good Harbor and Wingaersheek beaches. Through persistence and a real love for keeping the city clean she finally got the funds from Gloucester's Civic and Garden Counsel to restore the murals. Originally done by Bob Viau of StudioVO the murals were painted on the concession stands at the beaches as a part of Gloucester's Carry In Carry Out Program. The program stemmed from constant overflow of the trash barrels on GHB and Winga, the city decided to remove the trash barrels and enforce people to take their trash with them. I personally have had to tell people to pick up their trash when they were leaving the beach, it's usually kids from out of town with no respect for our beaches. The murals along with other signs act as a reminder for people to carry in and carry out. The Wingaersheek mural required more work than the Good Harbor one, both had patchwork and primer applied to ensure longevity. I put my own twist on the murals and really brightened them up so you can see them from a distance. Huge thank you to Gloucester's Civic and Garden Counsel, and Patti and Howard Amaral for all of their help.
