Jason Burroughs (1993 - Present) is an American artist and oil painter, originally from Gloucester, Massachusetts. His landscapes and marine paintings are inspired by the impressionists that frequented Cape Ann in the early 1900’s. Aiming to carry on the tradition of plein-air painting, and leave a recorded visual history, Burroughs captures the beauty of his hometown and beyond. He is currently a member of the North Shore Art Association, and Bryan Memorial Gallery.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My paintings are approximate, recorded observations. Using a limited palette, colors are developed never planned, and more consideration is put into the tonal values of a painting maintaining an atmospheric quality. I enjoy the process of building a painting, the search for balance in a design or drawing leads me to decisions on mark making that I wouldn’t have made otherwise. My brushstrokes arrive from the study, and appreciation for a piece of work that shows evidence of its creation.
